This test has been criticized lately because of the possibility that a machine could exhibit intelligent behavior without actually exhibiting intelligence.
One of the most important fields in AI is Expert Systems, which simulate human thought processes and help solve problems.
There are two main types of expert systems:
1) those that create rules based on knowledge gained from others, and
2) those that have a set of hierarchical goals.
For example, an expert system could be created to diagnose human diseases. It would contain specific knowledge from doctors about certain symptoms associated with certain diseases. This type of system is referred to as an “Induction System”. If the goal were closer related to the medical field, the rules might be created by the system itself, which would make it a type of “Planning System”.

The evaluator begins at the first rule and starts asking questions until she finds one that has an unfulfilled goal. She will then attempt to apply this goal, and the action associated with it, to the original problem. If this does not solve the problem, she will continue applying goals in this manner until a solution is produced.
